Safety
At every stage of our work, health and safety are our top priorities. Wherever building activity is taking place, risks are present—but with the right precautions, they can be effectively managed.
Before starting any work involving ready-mixed concrete, we strongly recommend reading our Ready-mixed Concrete Safety Data sheet
Contact with Wet Concrete
Wet concrete poses serious health risks, particularly through direct contact with skin or eyes. Alkali burns—a form of skin ulcerations—can result from exposure to freshly mixed concrete.
If concrete comes into contact with eyes, it may cause irritation, inflammation, or serious alkali burns that could lead to blindness. In such cases, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek urgent medical attention.
Please read our Ready-mixed Concrete Safety Data sheet before beginning any work involving ready-mixed concrete.
Safety clothing
Appropriate protective clothing is essential when working with concrete. This includes:
- Impervious gloves
- Long-sleeved clothing
- Eye protection
- Safety boots
Ensure you review our Ready-Mixed Concrete Safety Data Sheet before starting work.
Equipment Safety
All equipment—including hand tools—can pose risks if used improperly. Make sure everyone involved understands how to operate tools safely before work begins.
When the mixer truck arrives on site, establish a clear exclusion zone to prevent accidental injury. To ensure safe delivery, please make sure your site has sufficient access for our vehicles. Our trucks are designed to carry small loads of ready-mixed concrete, but space is still essential.
Typical truck dimensions (for guidance):
- Max Gross Weight: 18 tonnes
- Width: 9 ft 8 in (294 cm)
- Length: 21 ft 10 in (665 cm)
- Height: 12 ft (366 cm)
If you have specific access concerns, please contact our team to arrange a site visit.
Slips, Trips and Manual Handling
Wet concrete is extremely heavy and can make surfaces slippery. Please ensure all involved are aware of these risks and take extra care when moving around the site and handling concrete. To reduce risk:
- Wear safety footwear with good grip
- Be cautious when moving around the site
- Follow proper manual handling procedures when lifting or transporting concrete or equipment
Always consult our Ready-Mixed Concrete Safety Data Sheet before commencing work.
