Waterproof/watertight readymix concrete is specially formulated to keep the water in or out of cellars or swimming pools.

It’s also designed to meet the requirements of waterproofing as defined in BS8102 (all grades), meaning you’ll only receive the highest quality concrete for your project.

Watertight concrete can be used for swimming pools, where you want to keep the water in, and waterproofed underground construction, where the water needs to be kept out. For these applications, our waterproof concretes offer durable performance.

Our readymix concrete is naturally porous due to its capillaries forming migratory paths for water to pass through. This porosity can be reduced by adding special active components which block these capillaries. This effectively seals the concrete permanently against the penetration of water and harmful chemicals. Not only that, waterproof concrete can eliminate the need for additional membranes or finishes.

These qualities make Micromix concrete ideal for a range of applications, making it a versatile and effective option.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best concrete to use for waterproofing?

The best concrete to use for waterproofing is waterproof or watertight concrete. This is specifically designed to keep water and moisture in or out. By adding special active components to the concrete, this blocks capillaries, so water can’t pass through and cause damage.

Does concrete need waterproofing?

Concrete doesn’t always need waterproofing, but it’s essential for projects like basements and swimming pools. Concrete is naturally porous, which means there are capillaries for water to pass through. With waterproof concrete, you can block these capillaries, keeping water in or out. For certain applications, waterproof concrete will be necessary to prevent cracking, deterioration and mould growth.

When should I waterproof my concrete?

It’s best to waterproof concrete during the construction phase, ideally before any exposure to water or moisture. This means that the structure is protected from the start. However, if waterproofing isn’t applied during this stage, or existing concrete structures show signs of water damage, you can waterproof concrete afterwards.
